What is hypochondriasis?

It is the constant visit of the doctor from the doctor to the doctor with the fear that he or she has a serious bodily ailment, even though he or she does not have a physical illness. Hypochondriasis is an anxiety that depends on one's relationships, living conditions, living conditions, but transferred to the body and turned into physical illness.

It is seen between 4% and 9% of the society, it is more common at young ages, and at the same time, depression or anxiety may accompany individuals with hypochondriasis, this situation is very common. As a result of the researches, it has been determined that hypochondriasis is more common in developing countries, and it is a situation that we frequently encounter in our country.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF HYPOchondriasis?

The individual often touches and presses his body, can go around with drugs constantly, get various prescriptions and tests regularly, go to the doctor very often, and tell the doctors about their complaints at length in various branches. Individuals with hypochondriasis are extremely anxious. Their concern is that there is or may be a disease, and doctors do not understand these diseases. They have distanced themselves from many issues in their lives, and illness anxiety is always at the center of their lives.

There is no disorder in the thoughts of individuals, the content of their thoughts is usually full of suspicions and concerns about the disease. Individuals are extremely attentive to pain and aches at certain points of their bodies, they listen to their bodies. For example, in an individual with hypochondriasis, even if all the tests performed by the doctor are normal, the person can be sure that there is a heart disease, but they ignore things that will affect the treatment, such as exercise and nutrition, in general, their expectation is a continuous explanation rather than treatment. They are largely dissatisfied with medical service, often stating that they do not understand the needs of doctors.

HOW DOES BEING SICK AFFECT SOCIAL LIFE?

The lives of people with hypochondriasis are also adversely affected. People can prevent themselves from socializing because they think that they are experiencing diseases that occur in their own bodies or that they fear to occur. In their communication with their social environment, they always talk about their own diseases, besides, they can isolate themselves because they think they have palpitations, shortness of breath or any disease, and they can hold back from their social environment because they are constantly visiting doctors.

Anxiety disorder may accompany people with hypochondriasis, which causes the individual to feel highly anxious.

However, not every person experiencing hypochondriasis is isolated from his social life or his social communication decreases, it is about how much the person reflects this situation to his own life and how intensely he lives. The rate at which hypochondriasis affects social life is closely related to how well the individual can balance this situation.
